I am the only one out of a family of five (so far) that is not diabetic. I have an older brother who is diabetic and a younger sister who is diabetic. We lost both our parents to diabetes. They were way too young...62 and 63. I began writing after my father passed away and continue to write today. I also, began speaking publicly about diabetes shortly after my fathers' passing and continue to speak today. If someone would have asked me 10 years ago if I was going to become so active in the search for a diabetes cure I would have just laughed. Our lives have all changed so dramatically because of this horrible disease. The sad part, it didn't have to.
