Diabetes Needs a Hero – and she’s named Kitty Castellini

Diabetes needs a hero. Rightfully so, Roche Diabetes Care has named Kitty Castellini as the undisputed winner of the Diabetes Heroes’ Torchbearer Challenge.

As a reward, in addition to the distinguished title, Roche will make a $10,000 donation in Castellini’s name to South Jersey JDRF Chapter.

The title of hero was not chosen accidentally. In fact, the qualifications that earned Kitty the esteemed position exemplify her contributions to help others live full lives with diabetes.

Kitty has more than 47 years of living with type 1 diabetes. In August 2004, Kitty received a pancreas transplant and has been insulin-free since then.

In 2007, Kitty founded Diabetes Living Today. The mission of Diabetes Living Today is to educate and bring awareness about diabetes and the complications associated with this devastating disease to help improve the lives of those who are affected by diabetes.

Besides the contributions Kitty makes with her efforts through Diabetes Living Today, her accolades extend to advisory boards and many pharmaceutical companies who recognize Kitty as a “National Thought Leader” on diabetes,

“A diabetes hero is an ordinary person who finds the courage and strength to persevere and endure in spite of the overwhelming obstacles of diabetes,” says Kitty.

See the profile and video for Kitty. It’s a good portrayal of who she is and why she does what she does. Thanks Kitty!!.

I think the best category on the Diabetes Heroes site is the Torchbearers. Diabetes Torchbearers are driving change on your behalf. For those of you who like what you see – “Like” and “+1” to help spread the word about these Diabetes Heroes and their good work.
