DiabetesSisters – A community for the betterment of women with diabetes

DiabetesSisters was created by Brandy Barnes as a result of her experience with diabetes and the isolation and loneliness she felt with her diabetes.  She had a dream to improve the health and quality of life of women with diabetes, and to advocate on their behalf. This dream became the reality of DiabetesSisters.

Men  experience diabetes differently than women. Clearly this is not just a diabetes issue – but for the sake of DiabetesSister, this is a place where women can join one another for support, friendship, and understanding. When creating the site, Brandy felt that all women with diabetes should have access to a healthy support system that includes peers with diabetes.  In doing so, services were created that help you build your network of like-minded women who have diabetes.

For example, Facing Diabetes Together MAP is a unique service that allows you to see the vast number of women throughout the world who are living with diabetes, as well as viewing DiabetesSisters’ events in your area. It also allows you to post your own profile so that you can start connecting with DiabetesSisters. .

Another offering of DiabetesSisters is SisterMatch. This service allows you to find and connect with like-minded women for support, mentorship, and knowledge exchange.

You have a plethora of options to connect and build your support network. Once you have your circle of friends – why not plan for a meetup? Consider any number of conferences held throughout the nation.  DiabetesSisters is pleased to offer the Weekend for Women Conference Series. Check to see if one is coming to your area.

Here’s where DiabetesSisters really stands out for the sense of community it brings to its members: PODS (Part of DiabetesSisters) Meetups. PODS monthly Meetups provide encouragement in an informal environment, usually held at a DiabetesSisters member’s location of choice, for women with diabetes to take time away from others and truly focus on their health.

Creating an account with DiabetesSisters allows you the tools to enrich your personal support, enlighten you diabetes curiosities, and remind you about doctor’s appointments or medications. I’m not kidding. This is like having an electronic brain in addition to real friends and real good information. Reminders can be received via email, text message and voice message.

Get started today to build an entourage to empower, encourage, and educate with the purpose of reaching your full potential in life. An empowered, informed woman with diabetes is a healthy woman with DiabetesSisters!
